Louise Bourgeois’s Maman is the giant spider beside the Guggenheim’s riverside footbridge. Made from bronze, marble and stainless steel, the work pays tribute to the artist’s mother, who was a weaver. Look up beneath its long legs to find the suspended sac of eggs.
It makes a natural stop on a walk around the museum’s outdoor sculptures. The museum’s collection page explains the work and provides an audio guide; check that page for its current display location.
