A hillside basilica dedicated to Our Lady of Begoña, patron saint of Bizkaia.
Begoña’s hillside basilica is dedicated to the patron saint of Bizkaia. Inside, look for the carving of Our Lady of Begoña above the main altar and the Cavaillé-Coll organ at the back of the church. It remains an active place of worship, so plan a quiet visit around services.
The basilica’s own directions point to Santutxu metro, using the Zabalbide exit. Its main entrance is wheelchair accessible; the side entrances are not. Check the official visit page for current access and service times.
The church opens Monday–Friday 08:30–13:30, Saturday 09:30–13:30, and Sundays and public holidays 09:30–14:00; afternoon opening is 17:00–20:00 daily. Tourist visits are not permitted during services. Keep explanations outside or in the porch and remain quiet inside.
