Yves Klein’s five flame fountains reflected in the Guggenheim’s outdoor pool.
Five jets of fire rise in a line from the pool outside the Guggenheim, reflecting across the water. Yves Klein imagined the work before his death; Bilbao’s installation realises that idea beside Frank Gehry’s building. Timing matters: the museum schedules one-minute activations every quarter of an hour during a short evening window, which changes with the season. Check the artwork’s official page for the current window before planning your riverside walk. The flames are a timed installation, so an unlit pool does not necessarily mean the work has been removed.
