The Arriaga Theatre stands beside the river at the entrance to Bilbao’s Old Town. Its neo-baroque exterior dates from 1890. The current programme ranges across theatre, dance, music and opera, so a performance is one way to see the auditorium in use.
Guided visits offer another route inside, taking in the foyer, auditorium and rooms normally closed during performances. Dates depend on stage activity and the rooms available. Check the official guided-visit calendar or performance listings before making plans; the building is not a walk-in museum.
Tours are offered in Basque, Spanish and English, so check the language of your chosen departure when booking. Arrive before the start: visitors cannot join after a tour has begun.
