Gernika-Lumo
Attraction
The Assembly House and oak tree give a day in Gernika a clear starting point.
- Travel time
- About 70 min from Bilbao
Start a day in Gernika-Lumo at the Assembly House and its oak tree, a living symbol of Basque institutions. The parliamentary building and gardens give context to the town beyond its association with the 1937 bombing. Continue into the centre for the Peace Museum and streets around the market, choosing the museum visit to suit your interests.
Allow about 70 minutes from central Bilbao, including the walk from Gernika station. Take Euskotren E4 from Zazpikaleak/Casco Viejo and check the return timetable, especially at weekends. Reserve the Assembly House interior; plenary sessions can affect access.
