Plaza Biribila
Plaza Circular
Attraction · Abando
Start an Ensanche walk by Bilbao’s founder’s statue, close to Abando station.
Plaza Circular is a useful starting point for exploring central Bilbao, with Abando’s transport connections and the tourist office close at hand. The statue on its pedestal honours Diego López de Haro, who founded the town in 1300. Follow Gran Vía from here into the Ensanche to see its shops and grand façades, or head down Calle Navarra towards the Arenal Bridge and the Old Town. It works well as an orientation stop before setting off on either side of the river.
