Balmaseda
Attraction
A medieval bridge, riverside streets and a historic centre reached by train from Bilbao.
- Travel time
- About 80 min from Bilbao
Balmaseda is a historic town on the Kadagua, with the towered Puente Viejo as its recognisable starting point. Follow the riverside streets into the old centre around San Severino. This is a town-focused outing; museums and routes farther into Enkarterri need extra planning. The map marks the historic-centre area.
Allow about 80 minutes from central Bilbao to the historic-centre area. Renfe Cercanías C4 runs from Bilbao La Concordia to Balmaseda, with checked journeys taking about 63 minutes before the town walk. Allow extra for waiting and check your return service. The municipal tourism guide supplies maps and visit details.
