Deustuko zubia
puente de Deusto
Landmark · Deusto
A lift bridge linking Deusto and Abando, built for the days when ships worked their way upriver.
Deusto bridge connects the two banks of Bilbao's estuary with a reminder of the city's port traffic. Its opening leaves were designed to let ships pass, an engineering detail that explains why this crossing looks different from the newer pedestrian bridges.
Use it to join a walk through Deusto with the Abandoibarra waterfront. The university buildings and Iberdrola tower help orient you across the river; plan around the crossing itself rather than expecting a scheduled bridge opening.
